When a spontaneous trip to New York City turned into a sunrise photo session, I knew I had to share the breathtaking images.  I documented Madison and TJ’s love in classic Manhattan and Brooklyn locations. These photos are perfect inspiration for New York City engagement photos.

New York City Engagement Photos

I’ve known Madison and TJ for years. They first reached out to me in 2018, and I photographed their wedding. They’ve lived in New York for a while but decided to move. My trip happened to fall on their last week in New York. A photo session felt like the perfect way to say goodbye to the city. Even though these photos document Madison and TJ’s farewell to New York, they’re a great example of all the possibilities for an engagement session.

There’s so much to love about New York City engagement photos. Nowhere in the world has energy quite like New York. The history feels so tangible in the stately architecture of the buildings and bridges. There’s even a surprising amount of color whether it’s the red brick of Brooklyn or the bold blossoms in Central Park. This place is timeless in a way that feels nostalgic and modern at the same time.

You might be wondering how to get New York City engagement photos that aren’t full of people. After all, it is The City That Never Sleeps. I met up with Madison and TJ at sunrise. Not only were the streets relatively quiet, but the light was stunning. It was so even compared to later in the day.

Classic Neighborhoods for Romantic New York City Engagement Photos

New York City has more incredible neighborhoods than you could see in one morning. Madison and TJ decided to pick two that were dear to their hearts. They chose Central Park and DUMBO for their romantic couples photos.

Central Park

We started our morning in Central Park in Manhattan. Pink flowers bloomed and dropped petals on the walkways for this session. I love that Madison’s light blue dress mirrored the skyscrapers in the background. Central Park is a dreamy location for engagement photos because there are endless gardens and elaborate stone staircases and footbridges. There’s a beautiful surprise around every corner. So many scenes from romance novels and movies have been set here. Taking engagement photos here feels a bit like connecting your love story to all those others.

DUMBO and the Brooklyn Bridge

After taking photos in Central Park, we headed to Brooklyn. Madison and TJ took a walk through DUMBO, a historic neighborhood known for its chic galleries and restaurants. We walked down the street with the Manhattan Bridge adding a splash of blue between the red and orange brick. We couldn’t have asked for a better time to walk along the Brooklyn Bridge. The sun made the bridge and the city beyond it positively glow.

I’m so glad that Madison and TJ have these photos to look back on when they want to remember their time in New York City. Are you looking for a photographer for your New York City engagement photos? I would love to document this chapter of your story. Reach out to me!

Hi,
I'm Rose.

Your dedicated viewer and visual storyteller, taking a front-row seat
at your wedding.

I've spent almost a decade photographing more than 200 weddings. What I've learned matters most is giving an experience my couples didn't even know was possible - one where you feel calm, cared for and fully present with your people. I know what these images mean years from now: a record of the people who were there, the relationships that shaped you and the in-between moments that also deserve to be remembered.
